Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree amending the state program to assist voluntary resettlement in the Russian Federation

Due to the increase in Russophobic sentiments, on September 18, 2024, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a new decree to take additional measures to repatriate compatriots by amending the State Program for Assistance to Voluntary Resettlement of Compatriots Living Abroad to the Russian Federation.

In particular, compatriots from unfriendly states, including citizens of the Russian Federation, who permanently resided in the territory of these states as of February 24, 2022 and returned to Russia due to the loss of the right to such residence, are granted the right to apply for participation in the State Program, including as a repatriate, in the territory of the Russian Federation.

This will give such migrants and their family members an opportunity to formalize their legal status in a simplified procedure, including acquiring Russian citizenship.

Also, compatriots and members of their families who for whatever reason failed to resettle in Russia for permanent residence during the period of validity of the status of a participant (family member of a participant) of the State Program, which is now 5 years, are granted the right to participate in the State Program again.

In addition, the Decree adjusted the circle of persons entitled to receive the status of a family member of the State Program participant, in particular, this category of resettlers was supplemented with adopted or under guardianship (custody) children of the spouse of the State Program participant.
